Gösser    Gösser Dark

(Leoben, Austria)

When people think of Austria many things come to mind: The Alps, Mozart, Freud, "The Sound of Music" and the "Terminator" .

The Goss brewery traces its roots before any of these events or people. Records show that in the year 1020 brewing was performed by the nuns of this Styrian convent.

In 1782, Max Kober founded a brewery in the buildings of the convent that would become known as the Goss brewery. By the year 1892 the Goss brewery would become the third largest in the Styrian region of Austria

The first half of the twentieth century were difficult times in Austria, with the occupation of four different nations and great hardships suffered throughout Central Europe. Austria was reunited in 1955, with great celebration. Gösser beer was distinguished as the beer served at the signing of the Unification Treaty of 1955, when Austria was united as an independent and democratic state.

In 1977 the Gösser brewery came under the umbrella of the newly founded Steierbrau which in 1998 became known as Brau Union Osterreich AG. Brau Union is the largest brewery group in south central Europe whose brands include Heineken.

Gösser stands out for its Austrian heritage. Golden amber in color, it has a slightly flowery nose and a fruity mouthfeel, with a clean finish. If you like a smooth and well balanced beer Gösser is it. The flavor is rounded with an even balance of malt and bitterness. Gösser's slight malt flavor compliments steaks, wild game and other hearty foods.
